Hi there!
After more than a half year I came out, with the next version of my favorite plugins. In some forums, they call it as the only alternative to create CMS-like functionality in WordPress.
To tell the truth, I’m glad, because for the last half year WordPress.org reached 4000+ downloads of this plugin. And I’m thankful, for all of you commenting, and supporting me, with your bug reports.
But, now, get the facts:
- Category listing filter added and works together with category lister widgets
- Fully tested and bugfixed for WordPress 2.1
- Bugfixed the missing-categories case
- Bugfixed link category handling
- Restructured Dashboard
Important notice about widgets:
Currently the built-in widgets are very hard to customize, because the authors did not think about customization of them. So the solution will be, to release some customizable widgets, that does the same as the original ones, but enables the capability to fine tune the options we needed for category exclusion and friends…

Bug?? It seems to mess up my category listing css at times. The bullets disappear but categories do not. Sometimes categories do as well.
I’d also like to see a way not to exclude from home, but to exclude from the category list only.
Great idea, but currently not functional for me.

this plugin is great, i’ve been using it for a very long time, and had absolutely no problems, happy about 1.1!!!!!!!!! great work!
March 12th, 2008 at 09:47
Great plugin, nice work.
But the plugin stil can’t handle multiple categories.
Will you add support for this?
Would be great!
March 12th, 2008 at 12:38
I plan to add support for that.
And also plan to release a fully customizable recent comments, and recent posts widgets, and many other stuffl

[...] offical announcement is here, and the plugin itself can be downloaded from WordPress.org’s plugin [...]

You’ve done a very good work !!!!! Thanks a lot for the new options

BUG!
It’s a nice plug-in, but it breaks the RSS feed for tags. I am using WP 2.5 beta1.
March 17th, 2008 at 22:02
This plugin works well; however, I have a problem: my new articles are hidden from the front page now – even though they aren’t in the excluded category. I am using WP 2.3.3. Any suggestions?

And how to hide categories in Pagenavi plugin ? (I know, it’s a question for the Pagenavi forum but maybe it is possible to do it with your plugin
)
March 18th, 2008 at 22:08
I’m having the exact same problem as Rich, I’m also using the same version he is. It’s exluding the correct categories, but new posts in the non excluded cats are not being shown on the frontpage.
March 18th, 2008 at 22:22
P.S. I’ve tried pretty much everything and cant get the new posts to show, I think this is a new bug not addressed yet for v2.3.3 and I’ll have to disable the plugin until this gets sorted.
Thanks for the hard work on this plugin, when it works, it works well.
March 19th, 2008 at 00:22
Well guys, I’m a coder, not a mind reader.
My personal blog runs on WP 2.3.3 so, the problem will be different than the blog engine.
Please give me a list of plugins, pls. And also I need to know, if the post is categorized or not (it can be uncategorized as you know, and in that case ACE won’t work), does the post have any tags.
And every informations like these.
March 19th, 2008 at 00:22
Nick, I’ve just downloaded WP 2-5 RC1 and I’m taking a closer look
March 19th, 2008 at 00:45
For all those having this problem, the fix is simple.
Just don’t add tags on the posts you want shown on the homepage.
After taking out all my tags, it works fine!
Hope this helps someone.
March 19th, 2008 at 01:22
Hm, it sound’s weird
What is the version of your MySQL server?
March 24th, 2008 at 00:06
This plugin is absolutely necessary for how I have my site set up, so a new release is well appreciated. I look forward to future releases.
March 24th, 2008 at 17:33
Thanks so much for the plugin! It works great and is a great compliment to my portfolio website!
March 25th, 2008 at 15:11
I’ve wrote about how I used this plugin here. Also, a minor glitch: when viewing a single post it still displays a list of the excluded category entries in the “Recent Posts” widget. Otherwise, it’s a really great plugin!
March 28th, 2008 at 00:59
Thanks for the great plugin. I noticed it doesn’t seem to support the static front page option. If static front page is turned on, the page for posts shows posts from excluded categories. I’m using 2.3.3.
March 28th, 2008 at 07:42
Version 1.1 does not work, it simply does not show my categories for selection in the categories tab. Using WP 2.3.3, only 1 category in place (the renamed default category). I was using 1.0.6 and have revered back to that and works fine.
March 28th, 2008 at 18:14
I am running Advanced Category Excluder 1.1 in my WP2.5 RC2 install, and it does have problems if you use tags in your posts. It will shut down all feeds from your site.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.5
This list has Advanced Category Excluder 1.1 listed as incompatable due to the following:
I hope this helps.
March 28th, 2008 at 23:06
I am really looking forward to the next release. We need compatibility with tags!
Keep up the good work! This is the only plugin of its kind.
April 7th, 2008 at 06:44
Is this compatible with WordPress 2.5? I installed and adjusted the settings so that the category “Archived” does not display anywhere — front page, search, archives, etc., yet it’s still appearing everywhere.
April 12th, 2008 at 14:19
I’m sure 2.5 support will be coming soon. This is an excellent and useful plugin and I can’t imagine why the developer wouldn’t make it work on 2.5
… although I can’t speak for him. Either way, it’s not working on my sites running 2.5 and it was by far the most useful plugin I had on those sites, and crucial to the site running properly. I do hope to see an update soon.
April 20th, 2008 at 15:45
Greta plug in, I didn’t realize how much I used it until I upgraded to 2.5, now I know! Please please please update this to 2.5!
Thanks!
April 21st, 2008 at 00:58
Anybody please, send a correct bugreport about what is wrong on WP 2.5.
My personal blog is running with wp 2.5, without ANY problem, with tags support, and so on.
April 21st, 2008 at 05:30
This is very funny DjZoNe, esp. with your choice of title – The king’s new dress. Because, I never tried using it on WP2.5 because of what Jason and Jenn said. I just installed it now and it works fine, so just goes to show that you shouldn’t always follow the crowd! ahahah! Thanks!

FEATURE REQUEST:
It would be handy to have a separate check box to exclude a category from listing in the “category list”. I know you can exclude them using the home group, but sometimes I want to exclude a category from the list, but not from the home page.
Thanks!
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:30
Hmm, that makes sense
April 24th, 2008 at 05:56
Hey DJzone,
Got a quick question on this this plug in, not sure if it is meant for what I want to do. When you go to my site, http://www.dietdrinkaddiction.com I have the main page set as my home page so to speak. When I creat a new post I don’t want it to show on that main page, which I have figured out how to do with the Advanced Category plugin, but I do want it to show up on my left panel under recent posts. Is that possible? I don’t per say want it to be totally hidden from the main page, just not in the text of the main page, only as a link under recent posts on the left. Can I do that or is there a different plugin that would allow that or am I just not getting the right setting yet?
Thanks,
MIke
April 24th, 2008 at 10:17
Mike, If you use, the recent posts widget, it’s not possible, because, in the widget you cannot exclude categories from the listing. If you have recent posts plugin, you can do it.
I plan to write a customizable recent posts widget, by the way.
April 26th, 2008 at 03:01
Looking forward to support for 2.5! I just upgraded and I miss my RSS feeds already.
April 26th, 2008 at 22:37
Hey DjZoNe,
Any updates on enabling this plugin to work with multiple categories? Works great if a post is only in one category, but two or more would make my life much easier.
April 27th, 2008 at 04:56
Elling, please send me a detailed bugreport, and let’s see what can we do
April 29th, 2008 at 01:13
I must be missing something.
I installed it. I activated it. I went to the ACE Dashboard, and I have two checkboxes with questions and a Save button. That’s it. No options for what categories to exclude or anything.
April 29th, 2008 at 06:33
Hi. Installed this as it is an essential plugin but it doesn’t work in WP 2.5.1 The list of categories does not update and even if you check some of the boxes they go off when you click save. Do you have plans to upgrade and if so when? It really is an essential tool. Many thanks.
April 29th, 2008 at 19:08
Love the plugin. One question, I notice that if you exclude a category from the front page it is also excluded from the recent posts list on the front page. I actually like have all recent posts advertised on the list, but just like to exclude some from being seen automatically. Is there any way to adjust that setting so all posts are listed on the recent post regardless of whether they are excluded?
Thanks
May 5th, 2008 at 01:11
I noticed that if the post is tagged with the category that I’ve excluded, then it won’t show up at all on the front page. It’s not listed in the category because I noticed that the plugin now excludes any posts from the excluded category, even if the post has other categories as well. So in order for me to still have the post connected to that category, I tagged it, but now it won’t show up on the front page even though it’s not under the category anymore.
(I hope that made sense)

This is a great plugin except that it doesn’t seems to handle hierachy categorisation? The parent would be gone and the child still exist. Or If i excluded the parent plus the child, the list that follows after that changed to a different style, font, color and seems to be out of position.

Hi there!
Nice plugin, but I have a problem with post hiding from home page: when post is in two categories (one category is hide while another is not), it does not shown on home page (situation is opposite to described in FAQ). When it is in the unhided category only – all ok.
Wordpress version – 2.5.1 (same problem is on 2.3.3), no other plugins installed.
PHP: 5.2, MySQL: 5.0

Hello. The Plugin doesn´t hide comments from feed for selected categories.
I´m using 2.5.1 – do you have an idea?
June 1st, 2008 at 06:01
great job!
June 9th, 2008 at 13:23
It is strange, but plugin seems not to be working for me.
I enter wp-admin/plugins.php?page=ace_page_main
And see only

Nothing to manage categories to exlude (as it worked in versions prior to 2.5.1

I am using yours plugin… but it does not exclude all to me the categories… that I select
July 3rd, 2008 at 19:37
I ran into a very inconvenient bug: when the plugin is activated, but no categories are checked (I am going to add a category that I don’t want to appear on the homepage), the order of the posts is reversed! Man, I’ve deleted WP, the posts and eventually the database to solve it, only to find out that it was actually this newly installed plugin…………………….
