This is just a bugfix version, because yesterday, a bug has been reported.
And I also add support for WordPress 2.6.
To be honest it was compatible with WP 2.6 before, and only the localization needs the correct wp-content directory path.
Update
In the mean time, I found another bug, accoriding to the Dashboard. So 1.2.2 is the current version.

Same with me, I have a featured category shown in the homepage, and I use the plugin plus this code to exclude the featured catergory from the normal posts.
But, when I use WP 2.6 it doesnt exclude the category from the normal post anymore, with WP 2.5. works fine.
Help please!

This sounds like the perfect plugin…except that when I Click on “ACE” in the dashboard, it shows “page does not exist”. I tried placing the main.php file that is included in the plugin download in the wp-admin file (apparently the file the ACE link goes to) but only get a blank screen now. I have no clue what I’m missing??? I’m running WP 2.6…

Thank you guys for all the feedback, I look deeper in this

Hello,
no matter which plugin I use for exclusion, I keep running into a problem … I want exclude the posts and the comments for these posts in a certain category from showing up in search and most of all in RSS. That works fine for the posts themselves. But for some reason the comments show up no matter which plugin I use. This is driving me absolutely crazy! Do you have any idea what I have to look at in order to fix this problem?
July 18th, 2008 at 22:44
The plugin shows 1.2.2 so I think I already have the most current version. I just downloaded it last night through the plugin page….any other ideas?

So, feature suggestion:
I want to restrict the posts shown on the front page, but I don’t want to restrict the entries in the ‘Recent posts’ widget on the sidebar. Is there any chance you could consider adding the ability for the plugin to discriminate between the main post loop and widgets when it comes to excluding posts?
Otherwise, this is a top plugin! Cheers!

I have the same issue as Rich. if there is any way a future version can have an option not to exclude the posts from the recent posts categories on the front page, that would be great!

Hi,
very good plugin. I use 1.2.2 but I think I found a bug: with the archives widget, it display month or count with the hidden category. When I click to see, the post didn’t appear, so it’s only in the archive list display.
Continue your good work!

I have the same problem as Tiff (comment 5). When I click on “ACE” in the dashboard, it shows “page does not exist”. This means that I still cannot edit the settings. I use ACE 1.2.2 on WP 2.6.
Hopefully you will find a solution.
However, keep up the good work.

Love this plugin! But I just upgraded it, activated it (was doing some work on site and needed it deactivated) and it was looking good.
But then I added a category, and this new category will not show up in the ACE/Category page. All the other categories are there, though.
July 27th, 2008 at 14:29
Solved!
Under ACE/Settings, I needed to check the box that says:
Do you want the category lister, to list the empty categories?
And then the category lister did.
Which would be pertinent, particularly, to an empty category, since I just made it so it wouldn’t show up…
If you know what I mean
Thanks for the upgrade.

I have the same problem as a few others above… when I click on ACE in the menu, the page can’t be found.

Thanks for the plugin. It’s just what I needed. I did encounter one bug I am hoping you can fix in the next version. I am using the plugin to exclude a subcategory, but not the parent. The subcategory is excluded, but it creates a empty line between the parent category and the next category in the list. Looking at the page source, it is because the following HTML code is still generated during the page creation:
Any hope of fixing this in the next revision?
Thanks again!

Well, obviously putting the code in my previous posting did not work. So I will describe it instead.
A “ul” tag is inserted into the text with ‘class equals children’ as part of the tag. After a line return, the “ul” tag is closed. If the “ul” tags were eliminated, the empty line would go away.

I have a pb with “main.php” too. Same as Tiff, Rich, Hans.
I use 1.2.2 on WP 2.6.
Could you solve the pb?

I’m also finding the same problem with the orphan tag (and maybe others as there seems to be a mess of and opening and closing tags). I am using 2.6 and the latest 1.2.2 versions. Has anyone found a workaround?
August 1st, 2008 at 18:21
The “workaround” will be released today, and it is the new version of ace, with categories and recent posts widget support.
August 1st, 2008 at 18:49
Thanks! In the problem I am seeing and you’ve likely resolved, the extra or missing tags adversely affect the settings remaining content in the sidebar.
BTW, when on the Settings page, if I mark or unmark both checkboxes and click Save, the first time returns to the same page with the changes lost. If immediately repeated, the changes are saved. (I am using Firefox 3.x and IE 7.)
Again thanks for the quick response!

same problem here, I excluded the gallery category but it does not exclude from the widget in the sidebar, or the search results..

Hello.
I’m using your plugin on one of my sites, and I wondered if you could tell me if it’s possible that it interferes with the daily blog posting function of del.icio.us. I have the daily blog posting function set to post to a category that I’m excluding from the home page. Del.icio.us uses the xmlrpc.php function to create the new post containing recent bookmarks. In a couple of tests I’ve run, it looks like del.icio.us won’t post the blog entry when the category is excluded.
Thanks. Love the plugin!
Regards,
Dale

Same problem as alot of others here. Not being able to open ACE panel in version 1.2.2.
August 3rd, 2008 at 08:13
Just checking back for your new update. Here is a summary of problems.
My install:
a. Using WP2.6, ACE1.2.2, with PHP5 and MySQL5 on a Windows server:
b. I have 211 categories that include three levels (1.0, 1.1, 1.1.1)
My problems:
1. When on Settings page, marking or unmarking boxes, first attempt returns to page without display the changes. On second attempt remark or clear and save does save the settings. [Not a big problem]
2. When setting to exclude categories from both the home page and the category list, the category list continues to show several excluded categories. It is unclear why some excluded categories show up and thers do not. It is not dependent upon posts existing in the category. I also rechecked and found that they are single-category posts. Is the problem the number of categories? Is it that there are three levels within some categories? [This is a big problem.]
3. As I vary the number and selection of categories excluded I find that the category list has missing/extra UL or LI tags that causes sidebar content after the category list to not display according to the CSS. [This is a problem but not as big as the problem with excluded categories still showing up in the category list.]
I look forward to trying your next update. If you have a RC version you’d like me to try, please email it to me and I will test it.
Thanks,
Matthew

I upgraded to Wordpress 2.6 and not it looks like ACE also excludes from the sidebar. I exclude from homepage but list a couple of titles from the same category in the side bar. It worked in 2.51.

Thanks for creating this plugin. I use it to separate ‘testposts’ for plugin testing from the homepage, RSS and search. At first glance it does the job perfectly. Will test some more in the future.
